Want a trick to testing out the quality and flavor of your cannabis before sparking up? Dry hits are the perfect way to examine your weed and get to know the terpene profile before burning your joint.

Cannabis journalist Lindsay MaHarry thoroughly explained how these dry hits could help us prepare for lift-off. 

She explained that dry hits are a term used to explore the weed’s terpene profile inside a joint before you spark it up. Simply pull on the joint, and detect any flavors or tastes that your palette is experiencing.

She also explained that dry hits can help us prepare for what effect the weed will provide based on the flavor and aroma. 

We’ve taken it upon ourselves to dry hit (then actually hit) three of our favorite pre-rolls courtesy of the go-getting and adventurous weed brand, Lume.

Dry Hit

This was our first attempt at dry hitting a joint, so we were eager to get started and detect any flavors that come through. When hitting the unsparked pre-roll, the first flavor we got was a spicy cinnamon or clove-like taste. After a couple more hits, there was a subtle aftertaste of citrusy lemon. 

Effects

Since Lume’s Pre-98 Bubba Kush Pre-Rolls are rich in caryophyllene (spice) and limonene (citrus), we expected a balanced high that’s both for the mind and body. The result was precisely this; a soothing high that relaxed the body and left the mind feeling creative and euphoric.

Dry Hit

Next in line was Lume’s stimulating Blue Dream Sativa Pre-Roll. We found a lovely array of flavors when dry hitting the joint, from peppercorn and refreshing lemongrass to an earthy, woodsy, and pine-like taste. 

Effects

Since the terpene profile contains Myrcene, Alpha-Pinene, and Beta-Pinene, all stimulating and punchy flavors, we assumed that this joint would offer a cerebral high. We found the high to be more uplifting and happy, which was perfectly reflected in the terpene profile. 

Dry Hit

Last but not least is the Indica everybody loves, Ice Cream Cake. When dry hitting Lume’s Ice Cream Cake Pre-Roll, a sweet vanilla flavor blasted our palette alongside an earthy, nutty flavor and a soft citrus aftertaste.

Effects

Although the overpowering vanilla and nut flavor hit our palettes first, the soft Limonene terpene gave us a relieving sensation that cleared us of anxiety and stress. This joint is perfect for anyone looking to wind down after a long day and relax into the evening.
